Furnace
Smelts ores into ingots, fires glass, terracotta, bricks and cement, chars logs, makes steel and silicon.
In the game
How to get it
A ring of eight cells of rock around an empty middle. Set it down, give it fuel (or a powered cable), the ore in the input and coal or charcoal in the reducer slot.
What it is for
Iron, copper, gold, titanium and lithium ingots, steel, charcoal, glass, terracotta, bricks, cement, silicon and the Raisonite alloy.
Why it exists
Fire transforms matter: the Furnace is the door to the iron age, and the only kiln of the game.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
The Furnace is the most important machine of the early game: a ring of rocks round a fire.
Recipe
Eight cells of any rock around an empty middle.
The four slots
- Input (up to 16): the ore, the sand, the clay, the ingot or the logs.
- Reducer (up to 4): coal or charcoal turns ore into metal; sand or limestone in this slot change what clay becomes.
- Fuel: coal, charcoal, wood, planks, sticks, bitumen, a fire gland, a bucket of lava, oil or kerosene...
- Output.
On a powered cable (2 kW) it needs no fuel at all.
What it makes (16 voxels of input each)
| Input | Reducer | Gives | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iron ore | 4 coal | 1 Iron ingot | 12 s |
| Copper ore | 4 coal | 1 copper ingot | 10 s |
| Gold ore | 4 coal | 1 gold ingot | 10 s |
| Titanium ore | 8 coal | 1 titanium ingot | 20 s |
| Lithium ore | 4 coal | 1 lithium ingot | 12 s |
| 1 iron ingot | 2 coal | 1 steel ingot | 15 s |
| Logs (any wood) | -- | 16 Charcoal | 4 s |
| Sand | -- | 16 Glass | 8 s |
| Clay | -- | 16 Terracotta | 8 s |
| Clay | 4 sand | 2 bricks | 8 s |
| Clay | 16 limestone or chalk | 2 cement | 10 s |
| Sand | 8 coal | 1 Silicon | 20 s |
| 2 gold ingots | 1 raisonite shard | the Raisonite alloy | 10 s |
Bauxite only melts on a powered cable of 8 kW: one aluminium ingot in 15 s.
Fuel
Coal burns 60 s per cubic metre, wood 12 s, a charcoal like one voxel of coal, a bucket of lava 100 s.
Tips
- One charcoal counts as one voxel of coal in the reducer slot: no coal around? Burn logs into charcoal first.
- While it works the Furnace glows and pours molten metal into its mould.
