Crafting & machines · How it works
Farming the worlds' creatures
Most creatures of the Moon and the planets are worth farming: a pen and an OVM grid, a spawn farm, a shore camp. Never needed, always time saved -- and never a planet's metal without going there.
In the game
How to get it
Lead the gentle ones home on a leash and breed them on their food; build the walkers' farms (a fall, a pit, a grid) where the dangers appear; work near the giants that shed.
What it is for
Helium-3, the nine bodies' raw metals, fuel, batteries and food without mining trips: full-auto bases.
Why it exists
Every creature has a role; the farm is the patient player's road, the mine and the machine the other ones. A farm stands on its creature's world, or holds creatures brought from there by rocket.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
Every farm is optional: each metal also comes by mining, a machine or an event. A farm only saves time -- and it never gives a planet's metal before you went there.
The pens (breed, a grid under them)
| Creature | Food | Sheds by itself | Saves |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regolith creeper (Moon) | lunar moss | 4 helium-3 voxels / 5-8 min | helium-3 mining |
| Cloud jellyfish (Venus) | sulfur | 1 cytherite membrane / 12-16 min | shearing |
| Crystal mammoth (Miranda) | crystal, quartz | 1 crystal fleece / 10-14 min | the diamond rain |
Lead them on a leash (a jellyfish comes down to sulfur in your hand, a creeper stops hiding near lunar moss), feed two to breed them, and lay an OVM grid under the pen: what they shed goes to your machines. Shears stay faster where they work.
The spawn farms (a fall, a pit, a grid)
| Creature | Where it appears | Gives |
|---|---|---|
| Lead salamander | Mercury's day side, within 6 m of molten metal | hermesite beads |
| Colonist drone | Mars's old colony | aresite chips, copper wire |
| Methane crab | Titan's methane shores | crab meat, crab shell |
| Shade | Pluto's dark | ectoplasm, now and then hadesite |
The giants and the dangers
- The Europa's leviathan sheds a jovite scale every 3 to 5 minutes within 64 m of you; killed, it leaves almost nothing.
- A Ruin guardian stands again 20 minutes after it falls: a ruin is a slow hadesite mine.
- The dangers pay their fight: the Basalt golem's heart (fuel on Venus), the Electric eel's organ (batteries), the Dune worm's aresite chips, the Ice spectre's glacite diamond.
Why it exists
Owner's rule: most creatures worth farming, never mandatory, full-auto bases possible -- but no farm gives a planet alloy without having been there.
