Cloud jellyfish
Drifts peacefully in the fog of Venus, around the floating city. Shear its membranes (cytherite): they grow back in five minutes. Bred on sulfur and kept in a pen, it lets them go by itself. Killed, it gives nothing.
In the game
How to get it
In small drifts in the acid fog of Venus and the open sky above it, never down on the burning ground: most of them around the floating cities, the place to gather cytherite. Hold sulfur in your hand: within 16 m it drifts down to you.
What it is for
Right-click it with shears: 1 or 2 cytherite membranes, the raw stuff of cytherite (four make an ingot). Its arms are bare until they grow back, five minutes later. A kept one also lets a membrane go every 12 to 16 minutes.
Why it exists
You harvest, you do not kill: a killed cloud jellyfish gives nothing at all.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
How it behaves
- It drifts 10 to 24 m over the ground in groups, a few metres at a time, and chimes when someone comes within 12 m.
- It never stings; hurt, it drifts away.
How to recognise it
An apricot, rose or pale gold bell with warm glowing beads, three frilly arms (the membranes) and long tentacles.
How to farm it
Draw one down with sulfur in your hand, put a leash on it and lead it into a glass-roofed pen on a deck of the floating city; feed two of them sulfur and they breed. A kept jellyfish drifts 2 to 5 m over its floor and lets a membrane go every 12 to 16 minutes: an OVM grid under the pen gathers them, no hand needed. Shears stay about three times faster. Led aboard a rocket, a flock can make its farm elsewhere -- but only after you went to Venus for it.
