Colonist drone

An old robot of the Mars colony that guards its base and shoots. Destroyed, it drops aresite chips; plug an OWL-8 microcontroller into it and it becomes your ally.

In the game

How to get it

At the abandoned colony of Mars, on its built ground; a few stray in the deserts. In Easy it guards nothing: it fights only whoever hits it.

What it is for

Destroyed: 1 to 3 aresite chips (Mars's metal), copper wire (one time in two), sometimes a circuit board. Reprogrammed: an ally that follows you and shoots what you fight.

Why it exists

The colonists left, their guards stayed with their last orders. Rewrite them.

The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).

How it fights

  • It guards the place it was found: a player in Survival within 22 m of it is an intruder; past 36 m from its base it goes back.
  • It keeps about 7 m away, over your head, sliding from side to side, and shoots a bolt every few seconds (three bolts in four hit, within 14 m, if it sees you); close up, it rams.
  • Water shorts it. Neutral: in Easy, where the monsters vanish, it stays, and fights only whoever hits it.

How to reprogram it

Right-click it with an OWL-8 microcontroller of any size in your hand: the chip is spent, and one time in two the drone is yours (its eye turns green). It then flies over your shoulder, shoots the creature you hit and the monsters that come after you, sits with an empty-hand right click and comes back to your whistle.

How to farm it

The colony's built ground brings its drones back, four at a time: fight them there with a reprogrammed drone at your shoulder and an OVM grid under the plaza, and the chips come to your chests. 4 chips make an aresite ingot: 16 canyon ores and 4 coal saved.
