Mob farm
A dark room over a grid: monsters spawn, fall, drown or burn, and their loot lands in the grid by itself.
In the game
How to get it
Build a closed room with no light: zombies spawn there even by day. Kill them with a 16 m drop, water currents or drowning, and put a grid where they die to catch their loot.
What it is for
String, bones, gel, spores, glowing parts and glands without hunting: the parts that epoxy, coils, chips and rockets need.
Why it exists
There is no farm block in Openworld: you build farms by turning the world's rules -- falls, water, light, radio -- against the monsters.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
A mob farm turns the spawning rules into a steady flow of monster parts.
The parts
- The Grid: 6 iron ingots. What falls on it -- loot, items carried by water -- goes into its 12 slots; a conveyor takes it out from underneath.
- A Silo at the end stores 128 stacks of one item.
Making them spawn
- A closed room with no light is dark at any hour: zombies spawn in it even at noon.
- Other species need their own place: three mushrooms in the dark for shroomers and sporelings, lava for imps, crops at night for scarecrows, still water deep in a cave for slimes.
- Each spot holds only so many monsters: carry them out of a 16 m circle and more keep coming.
Killing them without a sword
| Method | Works on |
|---|---|
| A drop of 16 m (15 m is not enough for a zombie) | zombies and most walkers: 6.5 damage per metre beyond 3.5 m |
| Drowning | heavy breathers: trolls (12 s), sandworms and behemoths (20 s) |
| Running water | ghosts: 15 damage a second |
| Currents of water or oil | carry mobs and items to the grid; shroomers float on oil |
| Light | most monsters vanish after 3 s in a player's light, with no loot -- keep the kill zone dark |
Lures
- Raw meat or a bone on the ground: zombies within 16 m come to eat it.
- A player's lights: imps come within 24 m.
- A radio antenna stuns birds within 3 m of its head for 10 s; they fall. The channel picks the bird: 0-31 sparrows, 32-63 parrots, 64-95 gulls, 96-127 flamingos.
- A hive draws bees; mushrooms draw sporelings.
