Getting started · Item
Planks
Sawn wood: tools, the chest, doors, boats, furniture and building.
In the game
How to get it
Put a log in the grid: one cell of log (16 voxels) gives 32 voxels of planks of that tree's wood.
What it is for
Sticks, wooden tools, the crafting of doors, trapdoors, chests, boats and furniture, and a warm building block.
Why it exists
Raw wood is hard to work: you saw it into planks first, and lose nothing but the bark.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
Planks are sawn wood and the most used material of the first days.
How to get it
One grid cell of Log (16 voxels of wood or bark) gives 32 voxels of planks, half a 1 m block. The planks keep their wood: birch and redwood give their own pale and red planks, every other tree gives oak planks.
What it is for
- Sticks: two cells of planks one above the other give 4 sticks.
- Wooden tools and the wooden sword.
- Doors and trapdoors, the Boat, Furniture, the Bed frame, the Architect's desk.
- Building: placed voxel by voxel, or cut into shapes (cubes, slabs, stairs, walls, fences, panes) at the grid -- see Block shapes.
- Fuel: 12 s of fire per cubic metre.
Tips
Planks never appear in nature: if you see planks, someone built there.
Logs sawn into boards, each wood its own colour. Sticks, the first tools, chests, doors and most furniture start here.
