Block shapes
Cubes, slabs, stairs, walls, fences, pillars and panes, cut at the grid from whole blocks of one building material.
In the game
How to get it
Fill the grid with whole blocks (64 voxels a cell) of one material: 2×2 = 4 cubes, a row of 3 = 6 slabs, a column of 3 = 4 vertical slabs, a staircase of 6 = 6 stairs, 3×2 = 6 walls, block-stick-block = 8 fences.
What it is for
Build houses that look like houses: stairs that turn corners, walls and fences that join, slabs for floors, panes for windows.
Why it exists
Raw matter is placed voxel by voxel; shapes let you build big and clean, and never create matter from nothing.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
Any building material -- planks, any rock, bricks, tiles, glass, wool, metal, concrete... -- can be cut into shapes. The shape keeps the look of its material.
Recipes (each cell = a whole block, 64 voxels)
| Shape | Grid | You get |
|---|---|---|
| Cube (1 m, placed whole) | 2×2 blocks | 4 |
| Pillar (a column 50 cm wide) | 1 cube | 4 |
| Slab (half block) | 3 blocks in a row | 6 |
| Half slab (25 cm) | 1 slab | 2 |
| Vertical slab | 3 blocks in a column | 4 |
| Pane (one voxel thick: a window, a partition) | 1 vertical slab | 1 |
| Stair | 6 blocks as a staircase | 6 |
| Wall | 3×2 blocks | 6 |
| Fence | a block, a stick, a block | 8 |
Placing them
- Stairs turn into outer and inner corners by themselves; two vertical slabs at a right angle make an L corner.
- Walls, fences and panes join their neighbours, cubes and pillars.
- A slab or a half slab sits high or low in its cell depending on where you aim.
- Breaking a shape standing gives it back whole; crouching takes it voxel by voxel.
- No shape gives more matter than it took: breaking never creates blocks.
Raw matter
Outside shapes, raw matter is placed voxel by voxel (25 cm), as fine as you like. See Building materials for what to build with.
