Wooden tools
Pickaxe, axe, shovel and chisel of planks: the first digging, about 35 times faster than the hand.
In the game
How to get it
Planks for the heads, sticks for the handles: pickaxe = 3 planks across the top over 2 sticks; axe = 3 planks on one side of 2 sticks; shovel = 1 plank over 2 sticks; chisel = 1 plank over 1 stick.
What it is for
The pickaxe opens the rock, the axe fells trees by the cube, the shovel digs soil and tills fields, the chisel sculpts one voxel at a time.
Why it exists
Your hands only break a voxel at a time: a tool breaks a whole 1 m cube.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
The wooden tools are the first you can make: planks and sticks only.
The four tools
| Tool | Recipe | Breaks | Fast on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pickaxe | 3 planks across the top, 2 sticks down the middle | the aligned 1 m cube | rock, ore, masonry |
| Axe | 3 planks on one side of 2 sticks | the cube and a rough edge around it | wood, bark |
| Shovel | 1 plank over 2 sticks | the aligned 1 m cube | dirt, sand, gravel, snow; right click tills |
| Chisel | 1 plank over 1 stick | one voxel | nothing: it is for detail |
Numbers
Wood is the first tier: ×1.10 speed and about 71 cubes of stone of life. A wooden pickaxe breaks a cube of stone in about a second, where your fist would need almost forty. A tool wears with what it breaks: soft things cost less than stone.
Each tool its matter
A pickaxe in leaves is painfully slow on purpose (about 7 s a cube); shears cut them at once. Use the axe on trunks, the shovel on soil: the right tool saves a lot of time.
Next: Stone tools, twice as solid, then Iron tools.
