Getting started · How it works
First steps
Your bag, the 3×3 crafting grid, the recipe book, the wiki (I on anything, H to search) and dropping things.
In the game
How to get it
E opens your bag with its 3×3 crafting grid. The Recipes tab is the recipe book. I opens the wiki page of what you point at: the item under the mouse, or the creature, machine or block in your sights. H opens the wiki's search. Q drops one item, Ctrl+Q the whole stack.
What it is for
Everything is made in the grid; the book shows every recipe, and the wiki page of anything tells where it comes from and what it is for.
Why it exists
The book and the wiki pages are built from the game's own tables: what they say is always what works.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
Everything you make in Openworld starts in your bag. This page is the quick tour of what is on screen in your first minutes.
The bag (E)
- Hotbar: 12 slots at the bottom of the screen, keys 1 to 9, then 0, - and = (the wheel cycles them).
- Bag: 36 slots (3 rows of 12) above the hotbar, plus a column of 4 armor slots, an outfit slot (wingsuit, camouflage, warm clothes) and an equipment slot (paragliders).
- Stacks: raw matter stacks up to 4 096 voxels (64 blocks of 1 m); placed objects (stairs, chests, furniture...) up to 64.
- Mouse: left click takes or puts the stack; right click takes half or puts one; drag across slots to share evenly; double click gathers the same item; Shift+click sends it to the other side.
The crafting grid
- One cell = one item, or 16 voxels of raw matter (a quarter block). Building shapes (stairs, slabs, walls) take a whole block (64 voxels) per cell.
- A recipe works anywhere in the grid and mirrored left-right.
- Click the result for one craft, Shift+click for as many as the grid allows.
- Too little in a cell? The cell turns red and the counter reads "0 +12": that cell holds 12 voxels, not the 16 it needs.
The recipe book
The Recipes tab of the bag: one tab per branch (Survival, Agriculture, Industry, Technology, Space, Travel, Decoration), a search field and a "Craftable now" filter. Click an ingredient to jump to the recipe that makes it; right click goes back.
The wiki (I and H)
Press I on anything to open its wiki page: the item under the mouse (bag, chests, machines, the wiki's own pages); with the bag closed, the creature in your sights, else the machine or piece of furniture you aim at, else what you hold, else the block you aim at. A page tells how to get it, what it is for and why it exists, then the recipes that make it and use it and where the world hides it ("Where it comes from"). H opens the wiki on its search: type a name, or a kind such as "creature". Its other tab, My progress, is the whole path of the game; the panel beside the crafting grid shows your next step.
Dropping (Q)
Q throws one item from your hand (one 1 m block for raw matter), Ctrl+Q the whole stack; in the open bag they act on the slot under the mouse. You cannot pick back what you threw for 2 seconds, another player can after half a second.
