Getting started · How it works
Gather
What the world gives when you break it: flint, seeds, berries, apples, saplings, mushrooms, reeds and fibres.
In the game
How to get it
Break gravel (a flint for one block in ten), grass and ferns (wheat seeds 5 %), a berry bush (1 to 3 berries, it grows them back), oak and birch leaves (an apple 2 %), any leaves (a sapling 3 %), a giant mushroom cap (a small mushroom 25 %).
What it is for
Your first arrows and blade, your first field, early meals and trees to plant near your base.
Why it exists
Every item of the game can be had in survival, starting with what grows around you.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
Before any tool, the land already feeds you. Breaking some blocks gives more than the block itself: these are the gathering rules of the world.
What breaking gives
| You break | You get | How often |
|---|---|---|
| Gravel | a Flint, besides the gravel | one 1 m block in ten |
| Grass tuft, tall grass, fern | wheat seeds | 5 % (the plant itself only with shears) |
| Wild wheat, flax, cotton | 1 crop + 1 seed | one roll per 4 tufts |
| Berry bush | 1 to 3 Berries; the bush stays and grows them back | every time it is ripe |
| Oak and birch leaves | an Apple | 2 % per quarter block, leaves kept |
| Leaves of any Earth tree | a Sapling of that tree | 3 % per quarter block, leaves kept |
| Giant mushroom cap | a small mushroom | 25 % per quarter block (its only source) |
| A wild bee nest | honeycombs -- and angry bees | see Beehive |
Where to look
- Gravel: river beds, sea floors and rocky shores.
- Berry bushes: forests and taigas. Reeds grow in swamps, mangroves and along river and lake banks: they make Sugar and Paper.
- Wild wheat grows in plains and savannas, flax in plains, cotton in savannas and deserts.
- Giant mushrooms: dark forests, giant-mushroom forests and swamps.
Tips
- Shears cut leaves in a blink and give grass tufts and ferns whole.
- Two grass tufts cut with shears make a voxel of tall grass for a Flower pot.
