Getting started · Item
Flint
A knapped flint: the head of your first arrows and the blade of the flint sword.
In the game
How to get it
Break gravel: one 1 m block in ten gives a flint. Or knap a quarter block of flint nodules (found in the rock, 3 to 60 m down) in the grid: four flints.
What it is for
Arrow heads (a flint, a stick and a feather make four arrows) and the flint sword, sharper than stone.
Why it exists
The first sharp edge of the world, long before metal.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
Flint is the first sharp thing you can hold. It turns gravel into weapons.
How to get it
- Gravel: every 1 m block of gravel you break has one chance in ten to give a flint, and you keep the gravel. Gravel lines river beds, sea floors and rocky shores.
- Flint nodules: small pockets of the "Flint" rock appear 3 to 60 m underground. One grid cell of them (16 voxels) knaps into 4 flints.
What it is for
- Arrows: a flint on top, a stick in the middle, a feather below -- four arrows.
- The flint sword: two flints over a stick. It hits harder than a stone sword (27 against 24) but chips sooner.
Why it matters
The Bow needs arrows, and arrows need flint: a little gravel in your first hour saves your first nights.
A knapped flint: arrow heads, and sparks.
