Ores of the Earth
Coal, iron, copper, gold, titanium, bauxite, lithium, gems, saltpetre, sulfur, flint and more: where each one lies.
In the game
How to get it
Break ore with a pickaxe -- any pickaxe works, a better one much faster; only raisonite wants iron or titanium. Each ore has its depth band and its giant lodes.
What it is for
Smelt them in the Furnace for ingots, cut gems and raisonite in the grid, grind saltpetre and sulfur into gunpowder.
Why it exists
Each ore has its place: knowing where to dig is half of mining.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
The Earth holds a dozen ores. The table gives where their veins lie; most also form giant lodes (see Explore).
| Ore | Depth | Notes | Becomes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coal | 3 to 70 m, and in caves near the surface | the most common | fuel, reducer, torches -- see Coal |
| Iron | 10 to 140 m, and in caves | iron ingots | |
| Copper | 8 to 90 m, and in caves | more under highlands | copper ingots |
| Bauxite | 3 to 30 m, and in caves | three times more under jungles and savannas | aluminium (Furnace on a powered cable) |
| Lithium | 20 to 120 m | more under highlands | lithium ingots |
| Gold | 70 to 200 m | also near the surface under canyons, to 60 m | gold ingots |
| Titanium | 90 to 200 m | more near volcanoes | titanium ingots |
| Gem ore | 100 to 200 m, and in geodes | more under mountains | Diamond (ore) |
| Uranium | 120 to 200 m | see Uranium ore | |
| Saltpetre | 3 to 40 m | three times more under deserts and canyons; crusts on desert cave floors | gunpowder |
| Sulfur | 5 to 80 m | near volcanoes | gunpowder |
| Flint | 3 to 60 m | nodules | flint |
| Quartz | in Geodes only | polished quartz | |
| Raisonite | 35 to 110 m | rare violet pockets; iron pickaxe | a raisonite shard |
Silver, tin, zinc, lead, nickel and graphite no longer form in new land; blocks of them already mined stay building blocks.
A yellow mineral of volcanic lands. Mixed with saltpetre and charcoal, it makes gunpowder.
