Generator
Burns coal, charcoal, wood, oil or kerosene and gives up to 5 kW to its cables, burning only what they take.
In the game
How to get it
At the grid: 4 iron sheets in the corners, 2 copper coils (top and bottom middle), 2 cogwheels (sides) and 2 tallow in the centre. Place it, put fuel in its slot (or oil and kerosene in its tank) and plug a power cable.
What it is for
The first electricity at night or underground: lamps, the metal mill, the refinery, the Furnace's aluminium (8 kW: two generators), batteries to charge.
Why it exists
The first electricity comes from fire. It costs fuel, so the sun and the wind soon become worth building.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
The generator is an engine and a dynamo: fuel in, electricity out.
How to make it
At the grid: 4 iron sheets in the corners, 2 copper coils top and bottom middle, 2 cogwheels left and right, 2 tallow in the centre.
Using it
- Fuel: coal, charcoal, wood in its slot, or crude oil and kerosene poured in its tank (4 m³) with a bucket.
- It gives up to 5 kW to the Power cables plugged into it and burns only for what they take: one voxel of coal is 8 kWh, so a generator lighting a few lamps burns very slowly.
- Its screen offers Running or Stopped (stopped keeps its fuel).
How it shares
On a network, the sun is used first, then the batteries, then the fuel: a generator only burns when the Solar panels and Lithium battery packs cannot follow.
Tips
- Two generators make the 8 kW the Furnace needs to melt bauxite into Aluminium.
- A light switch on the cable cuts what goes past it.
An engine that burns coal, charcoal, wood or the oil and kerosene of its tank, and turns a dynamo: up to 5 kW for its cables, burning only for what they take (a voxel of coal: 2 kWh). Cables carry it to the lamps; a light switch on the way cuts it.
