Technology · Goal
First electricity
The goal reached with your first solar panel or generator: the first watts of your base.
In the game
How to get it
Make a solar panel (glass, silicon, copper wire, iron sheets) or a generator (iron sheets, copper coils, cogwheels, tallow): either one reaches the goal. Place it, give the generator fuel, and lay a small power cable from it.
What it is for
Lamps that light the base at night, a metal mill four times faster, batteries to keep the power: every machine that wants a cable.
Why it exists
Fire and muscle got you this far; from here on machines work for you. A panel is free but works only by day, a generator works at any hour but burns fuel.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
The goal First electricity is reached the moment you hold a Solar panel or a Generator: either one.
Which one first
| Solar panel | Generator | |
|---|---|---|
| Made of | 48 voxels of glass, 2 silicon, 2 copper wires, 2 iron sheets | 4 iron sheets, 2 copper coils, 2 cogwheels, 2 tallow |
| Power | up to 400 W, under the open sky, by day | up to 5 kW, at any hour |
| Costs | nothing once placed | fuel: coal, charcoal, wood, crude oil or kerosene (a voxel of coal is 8 kWh) |
Wiring it
- Make small power cables at the Metal mill: 4 copper wires and an insulation give 8.
- Lay a cable like a trail from the panel's or the generator's port to what it feeds; a Junction shares it.
- Plug in lamps, the metal mill (3 kW: four times faster) and a Lithium battery to keep the day's power for the night.
What next
- An Electric home: bulbs, lamps and their switch.
- A Wind turbine: power whenever the wind blows.
- The Power grid: large cables and transformers for heavy industry.
