In the game
How to get it
At the grid: 4 iron or steel ingots in a ring (top, left, right and bottom cells, the centre empty): 2 cogwheels.
What it is for
Metal mill (2), generator (2), conveyors, pumps and boosters, the concrete mixer (2), gear wheels, wind hubs, the gas plant, the fueling tower (4), the hyperbaric press (4), rocket and ship engines.
Why it exists
Movement before electricity: a cogwheel is the oldest machine part there is, and it opens the workshop.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
The cogwheel is the most used part of the workshop.
How to get it
At the grid, 4 iron ingots (or steel ingots) in a ring: the top, left, right and bottom cells, the centre and the corners empty. You get 2 cogwheels.
What it is for
- Machines: Metal mill (2), Generator (2), Concrete mixer (2), Gas plant (1), Fueling tower (4), Hyperbaric press (4).
- Logistics: Conveyor (1 for 4 m; 2 for the fast one), Field pump, Booster pump, Booster blower, Delay.
- Rotation: every Gear wheel and wind rotor hub is built round one.
- Space: the rocket engine's pumps (4) and the ship's engine (2).
Why it exists
It is the first part a smith can make from iron alone, before any steel, so the workshop can start right after the first iron ingots.
A toothed iron wheel: machines and clocks.
