Survival · How it works

Cold and heat

Temperature, warm clothes and heated rooms: a far-away base must be heated.

How to get it

The sewing machine makes a knitted sweater (+12 °C) and a fur coat (+20 °C), worn in the outfit slot. A closed room is warmed by a fireplace or an electric radiator; a hole or an open door lets the heat out.

What it is for

Below 12 °C you get hungry faster (up to three times), below 0 °C you run slower, below -25 °C you lose health; crops stop growing below 2 °C.

Why it exists

A base in the mountains or the snow is a real choice: you will have to heat it.

The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).

Every place of the world has a temperature that follows its climate, the altitude, the hour and the weather.

Outdoors

  • Deserts reach about 38 °C, the snow line about 1 °C, the poles -22 °C. Nights are colder, deserts most of all.
  • Wind makes the cold feel colder (below 10 °C), damp heat feels hotter (above 27 °C).
  • Caves keep the steady temperature of the ground.

What it does to you

Felt temperatureEffect
below 12 °Chunger drains faster, up to ×3
below 0 °Cyou run at ×0.85 (×0.7 below -15 °C)
below -25 °Cyou lose health, never below 5
above 32 °Chunger ×1.5, running ×0.9

A thermometer chip appears on your screen when it is too cold or too hot.

Warm clothes

Made at the Sewing machine, worn in the outfit slot:

ClothesRecipeWarmth
Knitted sweater4 wool fabrics, 2 wool+12 °C
Fur coat4 wool fabrics, 4 fur, 2 hides+20 °C

They wear out slowly while they protect you, about six days of steady cold.

Heated rooms

  • The game sees the room you stand in: its walls, its holes, its volume. A closed door is a wall; every hole or open door leaks heat.
  • Heat sources: a Fireplace, an Electric radiator (1.5 kW), a campfire, a burning furnace, lava, and the players themselves.
  • A room warms up in a few minutes and holds its heat; step out of a heated mountain hut and the cold bites at once.

Crops

Fields grow fastest between 12 and 28 °C, slow down when it is cold or dry, and stop below 2 °C: a heated greenhouse helps.
