Door and trapdoor
Doors and trapdoors of planks or metal plate, plain or with a lock.
In the game
How to get it
Doors: six cells of planks or metal plate in two columns (three doors). Trapdoors: two cells side by side (two trapdoors). A key in the middle of either recipe gives the locked version.
What it is for
Close your rooms against the night; trapdoors close cellars, wells and roof hatches.
Why it exists
Walls are only half a house: the other half closes.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
Doors and trapdoors are the openings you can close. Both come in wood (any planks) or in metal plate.
Recipes
| Item | Grid | You get |

| Trapdoor | 2 cells side by side | 2 trapdoors |

| Trapdoor with a lock | a cell, a key, a cell | 2 trapdoors |
How they work
- Right click (standing) opens and closes, even with an item in hand; crouch to place a block against it instead.
- A door is never closed on a player. It always breaks whole.
- A closed door holds the warmth of a heated room; an open one lets it out (see Cold and heat).
- A signal on a cable can open and close them too, for automatic doors later in the game.
Locks
See Keys and locks: a locked door or trapdoor with an assigned key opens only for whoever carries that key.
