Four straw in a 2×2 square: a quarter block (16 voxels) of thatch. Straw comes from ripe wheat, one per square metre.

Thatch is the straw roof of the countryside.
Recipe
Four straw in a 2×2 square: 16 voxels of thatch. Every ripe square metre of Wheat gives a straw; scarecrows drop 2 to 4.
Building with it
Place it voxel by voxel or cut it into slabs and stairs for sloped roofs (see Block shapes). Fibre blocks break fast with Shears.
