Piping
Pipes, pumps, boosters, valves and taps: liquids and gases moved from a well to a machine, or around the planet.
In the game
How to get it
Lay pipes from an output port to an input port; draw liquid from the ground with a field pump on a shaft, push it farther or higher with booster pumps, control it with valves and serve buckets with taps.
What it is for
Water to the gas plant and the concrete mixer, crude oil to the refinery, products to tanks, fuel to the fueling tower's machines.
Why it exists
Buckets carry a cubic metre at a time; a pipeline carries a lake.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
The pieces
| Piece | Role |
|---|---|
| Pipe | small (4 voxels a second) or large (64 a second) |
| Field Field pump | draws water, oil, lava, milk or kerosene from the ground, turned by a shaft |
| Booster pump | pushes a line farther than 20 m or uphill |
| Valve | opens and shuts a line, by hand or by a signal |
| Tap | fills the bucket you hold out to it |
| Pipe Junction | splits a line, small pipes on large ones |
| Storage tank, Large tank | store 16 or 64 m³ |
Rules
- One fluid per line.
- Gravity is free: a pipe carries by itself when its arrival is lower and it is at most 20 m long. Otherwise a booster pump. Gases leave under pressure and climb as they fall over 20 m.
- A pipe has no span limit: pipelines can run hundreds of kilometres, with a booster every 80 to 100 m.
- A port takes its own size; a junction is where sizes meet.
