Junction
A box that splits a link: power, signals, fluids, items, a shaft's rotation or optical fibres.
In the game
How to get it
At the grid: three pieces of the link it joins and an iron sheet (two pieces in the top corners, the sheet between them, the third piece under it). Place it on a wall, a floor, a ceiling or right on a cable, then run links from its faces.
What it is for
Power and signals are shared on every way; items go round each way in turn (a splitter); fluids divide equally; a shaft's power divides (4 % lost).
Why it exists
A link never divides by itself: a junction is placed on purpose, so a network is always readable.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
Links (cables, pipes, conveyors, shafts, fibres) never branch by themselves. A junction is the box where they do.
How to get it
At the grid: 3 pieces of the link it joins (the two top corners and the middle of the row below) and an iron sheet between the top two: one junction of that kind and size. There is one for small and large power cables, signal cables, small and large pipes, normal and fast conveyors, wooden and steel shafts, mono and octo fibres.
How each one splits
| Link | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Power, signal, fibre | one network: every way shares it |
| Conveyor | a splitter: items go to each output in turn; an output that refused is skipped for 2 s |
| Pipe | fluids divide equally; each port takes its size or smaller (a reducing junction) |
| Shaft | the power divides, 4 % lost |
Placing it
Small ones (cables, signals, fibres) are a single voxel: on a wall, a floor, a ceiling, or aimed at a cable it clips onto it. Large ones (large cable, pipes, conveyors, shafts) take a 1 m cell.
Tips
- A pipe junction lets a small pipe tap a large pipeline: serve a village along a pipeline.
- Splitters towards silos locked on one item sort a factory's output without any sorter.
