Moon landing
Pick "The Moon" on the rocket screen and let the autopilot fly: transfer, capture, descent and landing.
In the game
How to get it
A rocket with 3 or 4 full tanks; choose The Moon (or a landing point on it from the map); press P and Space, nothing else: the autopilot brakes into a low lunar orbit, then lands.
What it is for
Reach the first world after the Earth: helium-3, ilmenite, meteoric iron, anorthosite, Moon ice, and its creatures. Gravity is 0.165 g: you jump six times higher.
Why it exists
The Moon is the first space goal: everything there is better than on the Earth, and its giant bird lets you fly anywhere.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
The trip
- Delta-v: about 7 km/s to land on the Moon, 8.3 km/s to land and come back (the rocket screen's bar).
- 3 or 4 full tanks give margin; 2 are marginal.
- The autopilot waits for the right moment, injects toward the Moon, corrects, brakes into a low orbit and lands; under time acceleration the trip takes minutes.
On the Moon
- 0.165 g: you jump six times higher and fall slowly; fall damage counts energy.
- No air: wear the Space suit. Sounds come muffled through it.
- Coming back: "Back to Earth" costs 3.4 km/s; "Lunar orbit" 1 km/s.
