Telescope
A tripod telescope that follows the sky: zoom up to x2000 on stars, planets and asteroids, with the names players gave them.
In the game
How to get it
At the grid: 2 lenses in the top corners round a copper sheet, a copper sheet, a mirror and planks in the middle row, 2 sticks in the bottom corners. Place it and right-click to look; right-click again at the eyepiece for its panel.
What it is for
Watch the Moon before you fly there, find planets and asteroids, read the names of the stars named by players, follow a body across the night.
Why it exists
A decoration you can use: the first window onto the space you will travel.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
How to make it
At the grid: 2 lenses (top corners) and a copper sheet (top middle); a copper sheet, a mirror and planks across the middle; 2 sticks in the bottom corners. Its tripod comes in the wood of the planks.
Looking
- Right-click it to stand behind the eyepiece; the tube follows your gaze and others see you looking.
- The wheel zooms from x1 to x400 (optical); beyond, the star or asteroid under the cross is locked and followed, and up to x2000 you reach its system or the asteroid's close-up.
- Follow the sky (on by default) keeps the target in view as the sky turns.
- Names of bodies named by players appear, small, and grow with the zoom.
The panel
Right-click at the eyepiece: your bodies, favourites, a search (name, pseudo or code); a click turns the telescope to the body (and says when it rises if it is below the horizon).
Leaving
Esc, the inventory key, Shift or Space.
Right-click a block to place it, facing you. Broken, it comes back whole.
