Crafting & machines · Item
Cogwheel, bolts, spring, coil
The four workshop parts made at the grid: cogwheels, bolts, coil springs and copper coils.
In the game
How to get it
At the grid: 4 iron or steel ingots in a ring give 2 cogwheels; 1 steel ingot gives 8 bolts; 2 steel ingots in a column give 8 coil springs; 7 copper wires round an iron ingot with a string (or wax) give 2 copper coils.
What it is for
Cogwheels turn every machine, bolts hold the big ones together, springs make switches, valves and latches, coils make motors, generators, transformers and relays.
Why it exists
Four parts to remember for the whole workshop: they are cheap one by one, but a big factory eats hundreds of them.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
Four parts, all made at the crafting grid, build every machine of the industry.
| Part | Recipe | Gives |
|---|---|---|
| Cogwheel | 4 iron (or steel) ingots in a ring, centre empty | 2 |
| Bolts | 1 steel ingot alone | 8 |
| Coil spring | 2 steel ingots in a column | 8 |
| Copper coil | 7 copper wires round an iron ingot, a string (or wax) under it | 2 |
Why it exists
A real workshop has thousands of parts; Openworld keeps four, so that a player remembers them after a month away. Steel parts make the Metal mill worth having early: steel is an iron ingot and 2 coal in the Furnace.
Rotation
Once the parts are there, shafts, gear wheels and the electric motor carry movement: see Rotation.
