Probe recorder
The flight recorder of the colonists' probe, wrecked on the islet in the middle of Titan's great methane sea.
In the game
How to get it
In Titan's orbit, click the landmark chip of your ship's navigation table until it reads Probe wreck, then Land: the shuttle sets you down on the islet of the great sea, near the north pole. Or sail there in a boat. Walk up to the wreck: the recorder is yours, once.
What it is for
Read it with I: where the colonists of Mars were going, and why they never got there.
Why it exists
It ties the colonists' trail to the end of the Solar System: Pluto and its ruins.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
The wreck
A brass lander on its side, half sunk in the pebbles, its copper nose and heat shield torn off, a solar wing cracked on the shore and the parachute draped down to the methane.
The recorder
- Leg 3. Methane taken on at Titan, as planned: the tanks full for the long run to Pluto.
- Leg 3. The landing burn failed over the sea. We came down on the islet. The parachute held; the hull did not.
- Last entry. The old charts were right: the violet shards came from Pluto, from the ruins of the ones who grew them. We will not see them. Someone finish the voyage.
