Leaves
The crowns of the trees: saplings 3 % of the time, apples from oaks and birches, and a fast job for shears.

How to get it
Shears cut a cube of leaves in a blink (a pickaxe takes ages, on purpose). Each quarter block broken may drop a sapling (3 %) and, from oaks and birches, an apple (2 %).
What it is for
Saplings to replant, apples to eat and to tame horses, leaves to build hedges and to fill flower pots.
Why it exists
Trees give more than wood.

Every tree species has its leaves:

Leaves are solid: you can walk on a canopy. Shears take them in a blink; with a pickaxe it is painfully slow. See Sapling and Apple.
