Fission reactor
A rod and water make steam for two steam turbines: 100 kW from one machine.
In the game
How to get it
Craft it in the grid (steel plates, cement, cogwheels and circuit boards) and place it. Fill it with water (buckets, or a pipe from a pump) and put a fuel rod in it.
What it is for
It boils water into steam, which leaves by its pipes for the steam turbines: one reactor keeps two of them at full power. It only boils what the turbines draw, so a rod lasts as long as its power is used. A rod goes into its core with the first boil and stays there until spent; its slot holds the next ones.
Why it exists
Fission gives heat, a great deal of it, with no fire to feed: the turbines turn it into electricity.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
Numbers for engineers
| One boil | 1 voxel of water into 64 units of steam, every 8 s |
| Full steam | 8 units a second: two turbines at 50 kW |
| A rod | 6 hours of full steam |
| Water tank | 16 m³: over two hours at full power |
Its steam leaves by two small pipes at its back (one per turbine) or a large one on its dome; its water comes in by a small or a large pipe.
