Technology · How it works
Nuclear power plant
A reactor, its turbines and a waste cask: up to 100 kW for hours on one rod, capped, its fuel running out.
In the game
How to get it
Find a uranium field with a Geiger counter, set an industrial drill over it, and enrich its ore in a centrifuge; three enriched uranium in a steel tube make two fuel rods. A fission reactor filled with water boils its rods' heat into steam; a pipe takes the steam to a steam turbine, whose large power cable carries up to 50 kW to your machines. A rod lasts as long as its power is used; put the spent rods in a waste cask, two give back one enriched uranium.
What it is for
Up to 100 kW from one reactor and two turbines: enough for the hyperbaric press and a factory.
Why it exists
A big advantage, never an infinite one: each reactor is capped, its rods run out and their waste must be stored.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
The plan
1. Reactor filled with water, a fuel rod inside. 2. A small pipe from its Steam out to a steam turbine. 3. A large power cable from the turbine to your machines. 4. A waste cask beside it for the spent rods.
Engineers: a second turbine on the reactor's other steam port doubles the power; a pump and a large pipe keep its water topped up; a switch on a turbine's command input stops it.
