Pluto
Eternal night; a heart-shaped glacier of nitrogen ice 80 km across; blocky ice mountains, methane blades, and ancient ruins older than anything.
In the game
How to get it
Phase 4, the end of the system: land on Pluto. Bring light: the Sun is only a star there.
What it is for
Hadesite from the ruins' guardians, and the secret of raisonite in the great ruin under the heart.
Why it exists
Total darkness: without light you see nothing and no one.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
Pluto is the edge of the Solar System, where the Sun is just the brightest star.
Pluto's lands
- The ice heart: its western lobe a glacier smooth as a lake, in convection cells 700 m wide with troughs between them and pits; its eastern lobe frosted hills.
- Ice mountains along the heart's western rim: blocks and terraces of water ice up to 160 m.
- Bladed terrain east of the heart: rows of methane-ice blades 20 to 40 m tall.
- Tholin plains: dark red, cratered, old.
The ruins
About one every 7 km off the glacier: a court of violet stone, broken walls and towers, a glowing glyph frieze and obelisk, a sunken room down a stair -- each kept by a Ruin guardian. Under the heart's centre, the great ruin. See Pluto's ancient ruins and The secret of the ruins.
The night
The daylight is a few hundredths of the Earth's: the ground shows by starlight; the ruins' glyphs glow; a Lantern is your best weapon against the Shadow. See The eternal night.
The cold
-240 to -232 °C, even under the Sun: the Thermal suit and armour carrying the Glacite alloy, as on Triton.
