Technology · How it works
Wind rotor hub and blades
The two parts of a wind rotor: a hub of wood (2 kW) or steel (32 kW), and blades 4 m or 14 m across.
In the game
How to get it
Hub: a cogwheel on planks (or 3 steel ingots), with bolts on top. Small blades: 4 cells of planks round an iron sheet. Large blades: 8 cells of planks, 4 bolts and 2 iron sheets. Place the hub, then right-click it with the blades.
What it is for
Together, on a shaft and a motor, they turn wind into power: about 1.4 kW for the small blades, about 16 kW for the large ones in an 8 m/s wind.
Why it exists
Bigger blades give more power but need more room and a stronger hub and shaft: a choice, not an upgrade.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
The hub
| Hub | Recipe | Carries |
|---|---|---|
| Wooden | bolts (top), 3 cells of planks (sides and bottom), a cogwheel (centre) | 2 kW |
| Steel | bolts, 3 steel ingots, a cogwheel | 32 kW |
Set its back against a shaft or a motor, high up, facing the wind.
The blades
| Blades | Recipe | Across | In an 8 m/s wind |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 4 cells of planks round an iron sheet | 4 m | about 1.4 kW, starts in a light wind |
| Large | 8 cells of planks, 4 bolts, 2 iron sheets | 14 m | about 16 kW, slow and heavy |
Right-click the hub with the blades to mount them. The large ones need 7 m clear all round, a steel hub and a steel shaft.
