Electric motor
Fed by a cable it turns its shaft (up to 2 kW); turned by a wind rotor it gives power back.
In the game
How to get it
At the grid: 4 iron sheets, 2 copper coils round an iron ingot (the rotor) and tallow for the bearing: 1 motor. Plug a power cable on it and a shaft or a gear wheel on its axle.
What it is for
Drives pumps and machines on a shaft line; at the end of a wind turbine's shaft it is the generator that sends the wind's power into cables.
Why it exists
Wind into power, power into motion: the same machine works both ways, at 90 % efficiency each way.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
The electric motor is the meeting point of the two networks: cables on one side, a shaft on the other.
How to get it
At the grid: 4 iron sheets (the casing, in the corners), 2 copper coils on each side of an iron ingot (the rotor) and tallow (bottom middle): 1 motor.
How it works
- Fed by a cable it turns up to 2 kW at 120 turns a minute, at 90 % efficiency; its speed follows the power it is given, so a Transistor driven by a signal sets it.
- Turned by something else (a wind rotor, a shaft) it gives power to its cable, again at 90 %.
- Only a motor alone, or a gear wheel placed on it, turns.
Tips
- A Wind turbine needs one: hub, shaft, then the motor that turns the wind into electricity.
- Idle, it still takes about 67 W.
