Transformer
Joins small and large power cables, 97 % efficient; Up or Down is a setting on its sheet.
In the game
How to get it
At the grid: 2 small power cables on top, 2 copper coils on each side of 2 iron sheets in the middle, 2 large power cables at the bottom. Plug each cable size on its side and choose Up or Down on its sheet.
What it is for
Step the power of small cables up onto a large line, and back down where ordinary machines are; each transformer passes what a small cable carries (10 kW).
Why it exists
Cables of different sizes never join directly: a transformer is where a home's network meets the grid's.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
How to get it
At the grid: 2 small power cables (top corners), 2 copper coils (middle sides) round 2 iron sheets (centre), 2 large power cables (bottom corners).
How it works
- An input side and an output side; Up sends small to large, Down large to small (its sheet).
- 97 % of the power gets through; it passes at most what the smaller cable carries, 10 kW: a big plant uses several transformers onto one large line.
- Its sheet shows volts and amps on each side.
Right-click a block to place it, facing you. Broken, it comes back whole.
