Fuels
Kerosene, petrol, diesel and natural gas: the refinery's four cuts of crude oil.
In the game
How to get it
Refinery, choice Fractions: 1 m³ of crude oil gives 16 voxels each of kerosene, petrol and diesel and 16 units of natural gas in 20 s. Take them out with empty buckets and gas cylinders, or by pipe.
What it is for
Kerosene for RP-1 rocket fuel; natural gas for liquid methane and plastic; all of them burn in fire machines and generators.
Why it exists
Every cut has a purpose, so a refinery never makes waste: what a rocket does not need still heats a furnace.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
The Refinery's Fractions split crude oil into four products, each in its own tank.
| Fuel | Per m³ of crude | Burns (a full bucket or cylinder) | Main use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kerosene | 16 voxels | 40 s | RP-1 rocket fuel |
| Petrol | 16 voxels | 50 s | fuel |
| Diesel | 16 voxels | 60 s | the generator's best liquid |
| Natural gas | 16 units | 30 s | liquid methane, plastic |
For comparison, a cubic metre of coal burns 60 s and a full bucket of crude oil 20 s: refining multiplies the value of oil.
Taking them out
Right-click the refinery with an empty bucket (liquids) or an empty Gas cylinder (natural gas), or run a pipe from each output. Petrol and diesel never flow in the world: they live in buckets and tanks.
