Space · How it works
Miranda: the 20 km cliff
Verona Rupes, the tallest cliff of the Solar System: a sheer wall of layered ice ~440 m tall in the game (20 km in reality) on Uranus's moon Miranda.
In the game
How to get it
In Miranda's orbit, choose the landing place Great cliff at your ship's navigation table: the shuttle sets down on the plateau of the Inverness corona (on the equator, 0° east), a short walk from the edge. The plateau at 470 m ends in the great cliff over its southern side, 17 km long; its ends ramp down, so you can also walk up.
What it is for
The view, the great jump, and on the plain at its foot the diamonds of the rain.
Why it exists
Miranda was broken and glued back together: its scars are the tallest in the system.
The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).
The tallest cliff of the Solar System is on a moon 470 km wide.
The cliff
- The plateau stands at 470 m, the plain at its foot at 30 m: the column's whole height.
- Its face is jagged along its length -- buttresses, couloirs -- banded with layers of ice and dark rock, a talus of blocks at its foot.
- With 0.5 m/s² of gravity a fall from the top lasts about 42 s.
The rain
Every 15 minutes, 75 s of The diamond rain: find a roof, then gather the glacite-hearted diamonds.
Progress
