What gear do I need, and how do I get it?
- Outfit slot: a wingsuit (Ember, Glacier or Night) or a camouflage (forest, desert or snow, no wings). It is painted over your skin and your armor.
- Equipment slot: up to 8 paragliders (Classic, Rainbow or Midnight). One canopy per jump, the next one is the next in the pack.
- Sewing machine: a wingsuit takes 4 silk or cotton fabric, 2 raw fibres and 2 string (15 s). A paraglider takes 6 silk fabric, 2 fibres, 4 string and 1 hide (20 s). Fabric comes from the loom, string from spiders, fibre from sheep, fields or spiders.
How to get it
Three iron ingots, a cogwheel, planks and a hide. Put fabric, fibre and the extras, choose what to sew on its screen.
What it is for
Sew everything made of cloth -- home textiles, the sweater and fur coat against the cold, and the flying gear.
Why it exists
From cloth to the sky: the paraglider and the wingsuit are sewn, not bought.
How does the wingsuit fly?
- Fall more than 4 meters with at least 3 meters of empty space below, and the wingsuit spreads by itself: arms and legs out, fabric taut.
- Your look steers. Look down to dive: you lose height and gain speed. Look up to turn that speed back into height. Your body banks into the turns.
- The glide is about 10 m forward for 1 m down (31 m/s at 10 degrees below the horizon).
- Hold Shift to fold the wings and fall head down; let go and they spread again. Press V to change the camera view, including a chase view behind you.
- It cannot land. Touching the ground in a wingsuit hurts: your vertical speed and 60% of your forward speed count. A wall hurts too, at 3 health per m/s above 7 m/s.
How do I open and fly the paraglider?
- 1
Open high
In the air, once you are falling (about 1.5 m of fall, or 5 m/s down), press Space. The pilot chute leaves your hand, the wing comes out and inflates over about a second, with an opening shock. An altimeter shows height, speed and sink rate, and tells you to open under 150 m.
- 2
Fly with the lines
Your mouse keeps looking around; the keys pull the lines (table below). At rest it flies at about 10 m/s and sinks 1.5 m/s.
- 3
Land slowly
Pull both brakes (S) just before the ground.
- 4
Or cut away
Press Space twice under the wing to release it. It flies off on its own and is lost; you drop away in a plain fall (your wingsuit spreads again) and can open the next paraglider.
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| A / D | Left / right brake: turn. Held, a spiral dive (about 13 m/s of sink, 5 G) |
| S | Both brakes: slow down and flare. Held, a stall (about 7 m/s of sink) |
| W | Speed bar: about 13 m/s |
| Shift | Big ears: wingtips fold, fast descent (about 3 m/s of sink) |
| Ctrl held | Loop: a turn about every 2 seconds |
| Space twice | Cut the wing away |
How do I land without damage?
- Under a paraglider the ground forgives up to 12 m/s of forward speed: you just land walking. What hurts is your vertical speed, plus any forward speed above 12 m/s.
- A normal trim landing (1.5 m/s of sink) costs nothing. Landing out of a spiral dive does.
- Leave the spiral early and flare with S just above the ground.
- Landing under a canopy packs it back in the bag, nothing lost. Only a canopy you cut away is lost.
Questions
How do I get a wingsuit?
Sew it on the sewing machine: 4 silk or cotton fabric, 2 fibres and 2 string. Wear it in the Outfit slot.
How do I open the paraglider?
Press Space in the air while falling, with a paraglider in the Equipment slot.
Why did I take damage when I landed?
A wingsuit cannot land, and a paraglider landing hurts if your sink or forward speed is high. Flare with S.
