Chat commands and permissions

Commands are typed in the chat, start with a slash, and stay in English in every language. Here is how to type them, the ones that matter, and who is allowed to use what.

In short

  • Press T or /, type the command, press Enter. Tab completes it, and /help lists them all.
  • Commands and their keywords stay in English: /gamemode creative, /settime dawn.
  • On a server your role decides: a Player can set homes and go back to the spawn; admins do the rest. The host of a solo world is a SuperAdmin.
  • A line typed without a slash is a chat message, not a command.

How do I type a command?

  1. 1

    Open the chat

Press T, or press /: the chat opens with the slash already typed.

  2. 2

    Type the command

A command is a slash, its name, then its arguments separated by spaces: /tp 10 20. A line without the slash is sent to the other players as a message.

  3. 3

    Let the game help

Tab completes the word you are typing with the first suggestion (the yellow one), and a second press goes to the next. The up and down arrows bring back the lines you already sent. /help lists every command and /help tp shows the usage of one.

  4. 4

    Send it

Press Enter; Esc closes the chat. If the arguments are wrong the game answers with the usage; if your role does not allow the command, it tells you so.

Who is allowed to use which command?

RoleWhat it can do by default
SuperAdminEverything. The host of a solo world is one, and so are the names listed in a server's server.json.
AdminEvery command, every game mode, zones, borders, spawns, the admin tools (kick, ban, look at players) and giving roles lower than its own.
ModeratorSpectator mode, /tp, /tpc, /tpto and /tphere, a look at players' inventories and statistics, /kick, and listing the roles. Up to 10 homes.
PlayerChat, build, open chests, survival mode, up to 3 homes, /spawn, setting their own spawn point, /time and their own statistics.

What can admins do?

  • Roles: /role list|info|nodes|create|delete|add|remove|parent|name|color|priority|homes|default|assign. /role nodes lists every permission.
  • Zones: /zone create NAME [RADIUS] protects an area, then /zone set NAME RULE allow|deny|default decides who may build, fight, blow things up, open chests… /zone flags lists the rules.
  • Borders: /border set RADIUS draws a circle nobody crosses; /border world WORLD allow|deny and /border space allow|deny close the Moon or space.
  • Players: /kick PLAYER [REASON], /ban PLAYER [REASON], /unban PLAYER, /banlist, /playerinfo, /invsee PLAYER, /tpto PLAYER, /tphere PLAYER. A role can only act on roles below its own.
  • World: /setworldspawn (where new players and respawns land), /summon SPECIES [COUNT], /killall [SPECIES], /mobs on|off.
/role assign Alex moderator
/zone create spawn 40
/zone set spawn pvp deny
/border set 3000

Questions

Do commands work in a solo world?

Yes. You are the SuperAdmin of your own world, so every command is allowed, and the guests you invite are regular players.

The game says I am not allowed. What now?

Your role does not include that command. Ask an admin of the server to give you the permission or a higher role. Commands that change the world for everyone, like /settime or /weather, are admin tools.

Why are commands not translated?

Commands and their keywords are never translated, so the same line works in every language and on every server. The game's replies are translated.
