Space · How it works

Wild asteroids

Small worlds of rock, ice and metal beyond your ship's hull: reached by a ship's voyage, walked on with a jetpack.

AS1Asteroid belt · Side quest

In the game

How to get it

Aboard your ship in orbit round the Earth or the Moon, choose an asteroid among its destinations (the console's Community asteroids tab, or its pin on the map) and Go there: the fuel is paid on leaving, the voyage takes 30 s to 2 min. The ship parks 220 m from the rock: step out in a space suit with a jetpack and fly over.

What it is for

Rock, ice and metal in small worlds 24 to 46 m across: nickel, titanium deep inside, and the violet raisonite pockets under the skin of the wild ones.

Why it exists

The belt is a mine in the sky: what is rare on the Earth lies there for the taking.

The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).

Small worlds of rock, ice and metal, 24 to 46 m across, with no air and no gravity: a space suit and a jetpack, nothing else.

Getting there

  • Your ship in orbit round the Earth or the Moon (a voyage never leaves from a planet).
  • Its console's destinations, tab Community asteroids, or the asteroid's pin on the map: Go there. The fuel is paid on leaving; the voyage takes 30 s to 2 min.
  • The ship parks 220 m away. Step out and fly to the rock with the Jetpack.

What you find

  • Under a skin of regolith, the rock of its kind: basalt and ice, lunar rock, or metal veins (iron, nickel); titanium deep inside some.
  • In every wild asteroid (one no player sculpted), violet pockets of raisonite.
  • An asteroid you dig into is kept for good; one left untouched is forgotten an hour after the last visit.

Progress

Done when you reach an asteroid's rock, out of your ship.
