Concrete

Poured wet from a bucket, it creeps, sets in a minute and hardens in five: four times stone, reinforced eight times and blast-proof.

How to get it

Fill an empty bucket at the concrete mixer and pour it (standing: a whole cubic metre; crouching: one voxel). It creeps 2 voxels, sets dark grey after 60 s and is hard and light grey 4 minutes later.

What it is for

Walls, foundations, bunkers and launch pads: plain concrete is four times as hard to break as stone; reinforced concrete eight times, and explosions do not break it. Coloured concrete blocks and plaster decorate.

Why it exists

The owner wanted concrete that flows then sets, like the real thing: you build with a bucket, and time does the rest.

The same text the game shows in its progress tree and on the item's sheet (I).

How it works

1. Take wet concrete from the Concrete mixer in an empty bucket. 2. Pour it: standing, the whole cubic metre into the aimed cube; crouching, one voxel at a time. 3. Wet concrete creeps up to 2 voxels (one every 1.5 s) and never flows back. 4. After 60 s it has set (solid, dark grey); 4 minutes later it is hard concrete (light grey).

1 m³ poured gives at most 1 m³ of concrete: what crept away dries to air. A setting voxel scooped or broken is simply gone. The setting goes on while the server runs, even far away.

Kinds

ConcreteStrength
Concrete4 times stone to break, gives gravel back
Reinforced (a steel ingot in the mixer)8 times stone, always resists explosions
Coloured blocks (a dye in the mixer)placed like blocks, 64 voxels
Plaster (limestone)decoration

Tips

  • Scooping reinforced concrete back gives plain concrete.
  • A storage tank refuses wet concrete: it would set inside.
  • On the Moon, regolith and water make concrete without cement.

Concrete set hard: very strong, it stands explosions.
