How to get it
Candles: wax (or tallow) over a wick of wool, flax, cotton or string -- four candles. Candlestick: three candles over four iron or gold ingots. Chandelier: a copper wire, four candles and two ingots; a crystal one with gold and glass.
What it is for
Warm light that keeps monsters away within 8 m; the dye vat colours candles in 16 waxes.
Why it exists
Candlelight makes a house feel alive.

Light
Candles burn as soon as they are set down: a soft orange light. No monster appears within 8 m of a candle. On high graphics the flame casts a flickering light and a thread of smoke.
Colours
The Dye vat gives candles one of 16 colours of wax.
