A skin is a sculpture, not a picture
In most block games, a skin is a flat image wrapped around six faces. In Openworld, your character is made of voxels, like everything else in this voxel game: hundreds of tiny cubes, each with its own color, that give volume to everything. A nose that sticks out, a lock of hair falling over an eye, a crown, fox ears, a mermaid's tail… it all really exists, in 3D, from every angle.

And it's not only about looks: because your skin is a real model with volume, the game can animate it, light it and even dress it. More on that below.
A classic skin
- A small image of a few pixels, folded onto cubes
- Details are drawn flat
- The same silhouette for everyone

An Openworld skin
- A model with volume, voxel by voxel
- Noses, hair, hats, wings: everything really sticks out
- An adult's or a child's build, yours to sculpt

The editor: paint, sculpt, retouch
The real fun starts in My skin, from the main menu or right in the middle of a game from the pause menu. Your character turns in front of you; click on it and you're in edit mode.
- 1
Open “My skin”
From the main menu, or from the pause menu in the middle of a game (Esc).
- 2
Pick a model
The Models tab: browse the 7 worlds or type a word in the search. One click and you're wearing it.
- 3
Switch to edit mode
Click your character. Drag beside it to turn it around.
- 4
Sculpt
Paint, Add a cube, Erase, the Eyedropper to pick up a color, Fill an area. Turn on the mirror so left and right change together.
- 5
Focus on one part
Click a body part to work on it alone: the head, an arm, a leg… And switch on the accessories: hat, cape, backpack, tail.
- 6
Save
Ctrl + Z undoes, Ctrl + Y redoes (Cmd on a Mac). Save: your skin follows you everywhere.
Colors that glow in the dark
In the palette, one option makes a color glow: perfect for robot eyes, a headlamp, magic runes or neon sneakers. At night, deep in a forest or at the bottom of a cave, they stay bright.
Your skin in action
An Openworld skin isn't a statue. The game animates it live: it walks and runs with its feet firmly on the ground, crouches, jumps, swims, crawls, glides in a wingsuit… Capes and tails follow your moves with a bit of bounce. In first person, you even see your arm holding what you carry.

Press V to change the view: first person, from behind or from the front. It's the best way to admire your work… and to check that your cape is really flying.
Armor that fits your skin
In many games, armor is a ready-made model dropped over the character. In Openworld it is forged onto your skin: every piece follows the shape of your body, a shell one voxel thick, with its details — pauldrons, knee guards, a crest. A unicorn costume, a valkyrie or a suit and tie: each one keeps its silhouette, even in armor.

drag to turn · click a character
There are six armor materials, from hide to titanium, each with its own colors: copper that turns green in the creases, blued steel, engraved gold, titanium with blue and copper glints… The helmet hides your hat; the wingsuit, for its part, is painted over your whole body.
Online, everyone recognizes you
Your skin belongs to your player. When you save it, it's sent to your Openworld account: on any server, other players see you the way you made yourself, with your gestures, what you're holding and where you're looking. Hold Tab: the player list shows each skin's head, hat included. Even the launcher shows your players' heads. Want to show yours off? Here's how to play with friends, on Mac, Windows or Linux.

A skin in volume
A classic skin is a little flat image that folds onto cubes. Openworld keeps the joy of the pixel… but in volume. You no longer draw a face on a cube: you sculpt it. And your character lives in a voxel sandbox on a whole round planet, with creatures, caves and the Moon above your head.
Three steps and you're in
- 1Install Openworld with the downloaded file: it sets up the launcher.
- 2Create your account in the launcher and confirm your email.
- 3Pick your username… and play.

Questions
Do Openworld skins cost extra?
No. The 202 ready-made skins and the editor are part of the game: no shop, nothing to buy inside it.
Can I make my own skin from scratch?
Yes: start from any model, or from the starting skin, and retouch it voxel by voxel in “My skin”. You can repaint everything, add cubes, and switch on a hat, a cape, a backpack or a tail.
Do other players see my skin?
Yes, on online servers: your skin is saved on your account and sent to every player who meets you. On an offline server, everyone wears the default skin.
Can I change my skin in the middle of a game?
Yes: Esc, then “My skin”. Pick or retouch, save, and get back to your game.
Does a skin give an advantage?
No. A skin changes how you look, never what you can do. To protect yourself there's armor… and it fits your skin.
Which computers can play Openworld?
Openworld is played on a computer: Mac (Apple Silicon or Intel, macOS 11 or newer), Windows 10 and 11, and Linux. Download the game.
