What doors and trapdoors can I make?
Doors and trapdoors only exist in the materials that have a door drawing: the planks of each wood (oak, birch, redwood) and metal plate. Metal plate is hammered from iron: one iron ingot gives 16 voxels of it. A door has panels, hinges and a handle opposite the hinge; the leaf swings around its hinge.
| Piece | Size | Craft (a cell is 16 voxels) |
|---|---|---|
| Door | 1 m wide, 2 m high, 1 voxel thick | 6 cells of planks or metal plate (2 wide, 3 high) → 3 doors |
| Trapdoor | 1 m × 1 m, 1 voxel thick | 2 cells of planks or metal plate side by side → 2 trapdoors |
| Chest | 1 m × 0.75 m × 1 m | 8 cells of wood or planks around an empty middle → 1 chest |
How do I place, open and close a door?
- 1
Place it
Aim at the face where it should stand and right-click. A door is placed closed, on your side, hinged on the side you aimed at, and it opens away from you. A trapdoor has its hinge against the wall when placed on a side face, otherwise on the side you look at; like a slab it sits at the top or the bottom of its cell.
- 2
Open and close
Right-click it. Crouched (Shift), a right-click places a piece against the door instead of opening it.
- 3
Break it
A door or trapdoor always breaks whole and comes back as a door or trapdoor.
How do I lock a door, a trapdoor or a chest?
- 1
Craft blank keys
Two iron ingots, one above the other, give 2 blank keys.
- 2
Craft the locked piece
Use the normal recipe with a blank key in the middle. You can see the lock in the model (a plate and a keyhole on a leaf, an iron case on a chest) and the name says it.
- 3
Place it
With no key assigned yet, it works like a normal door or chest, for anyone.
- 4
Cut the key
Right-click the lock holding a blank key: the key is cut for that lock. A key that is already cut gets this lock too, so one key can open several locks.
| Locked piece | Recipe |
|---|---|
| Locked chest | The ring of 8 wood cells, a blank key in the middle |
| Locked door (3) | Two columns of 3 cells of planks or metal plate, a blank key between them in the middle row |
| Locked trapdoor (2) | A cell of planks or metal plate, a blank key, a cell of planks or metal plate |
Once its lock has a key, the piece opens, closes and breaks only for a player who carries that key in the hotbar or the bag. A big chest stays shut as long as one of its halves has a key you do not carry. A broken locked piece comes back as a locked piece with no key assigned. A lock takes one key only: right-clicking a lock that already has its key is refused.
How do chests work?
A chest has 36 slots (3 rows of 12). Put two chests of the same orientation side by side and they become a big chest of 72 slots, never three. Right-click opens it while you stand; everyone sees the lid up as long as someone is looking inside. The contents live on the server, survive restarts, and spill on the ground if the chest is broken.

Questions
Can one key open several doors?
Yes. Right-click each new lock with a key that is already cut and it gets that lock too.
Can I put a lock on a door I already placed?
No: the lock comes from the crafting recipe. Craft a locked door, place it, then cut the key on it.
Which materials can doors be made of?
Planks of oak, birch and redwood, and metal plate.
